WCCA 2007 PRESIDENTS GOALS & OBJECTIVES
1). Support & help plan two WCCA conferences 2). Maintain current member services. 3). Increase communication between WCCA committees and the membership. 4). Promote new membership ideas & strategy 5). Support the “Land Use & Zoning Administrator Leadership Program.” 6). Create a “Code Administrator Hall of Fame Program.”
Comments from the President-Duane L. Greuel: The real backbone of WCCA is our spring and fall conferences. It is at these two events where we as county officials can gather as a common group to share and increase our knowledge of planning and zoning administration. But perhaps more important our two conferences provide exchanges of ideas and thoughts that open doors for those willing to pass through them. I ask our membership and executive board to give their support to Scott Godfrey and CeCe Tesky in maintaining the tradition of providing the best speakers and programs with the resources our organization has. Our member services include not just the two conferences, but a website, structured Ad Hoc committees and member representation through statewide WCCA districts. The association has done a great job in increasing communication amongst ourselves via the WCCA Website and discussion board. I really believe our website and discussion board is a great means for connecting with our membership. I ask our membership to give the Website Committee their support and help increase its use by spreading the word of this valuable resource tool. There definitely appears to be a need to connect with those individuals that are new to the code profession or have little hands on experience. Our membership fees need to be adjusted so as to encourage membership from all those involved in code enforcement from a particular county. The executive board will be exploring a number of ways to recruit new membership including offering group membership rates and defining benefits of WCCA membership. The Executive Board is aware of tight department budgets and would like to remove the financial barrier by offering affordable membership rates that encourage maximum participation by all staff members. The first “Land Use and Zoning Leadership Program” is currently half completed with two workshops remaining. It is hoped that this program will help train new code administrators and replace mentoring gaps caused by veteran officials leaving the profession through retirement. Our organization plans to support another set of leadership workshops this coming fall and into 2008. There have been a number of individuals who have given service to our organization above and beyond what is expected of an individual and have also contributed substantially to our state’s land use legacy. There currently is no program to recognize these individuals or their accomplishments. I would like to propose a Code Administrator Hall of Fame Program to recognize those leaders of Wisconsin’s land legacy. I plan to provide more thoughts on this proposed program at our June Executive Board meeting. |
